JOSEPH C. "JOE" HUNNICUTT
Joseph C. "Joe" Hunnicutt, 93, died Friday, April 10, 2009 at Spanish Oaks Retreat. He was a native of Statesboro and a longtime resident of Savannah. Joe was a member of Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board, held many leadership positions within the church and was a member of the Adult Sunday School class. Joe was a veteran of the United States Army serving with the 69th Infantry. He was wounded in Germany during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was retired from the City of Savannah and was active with the Salvation Army.
Joe was preceded death by his wife, Eunice A. Hunnicutt, his brothers and sisters, William Hunnicutt, Luellen Burke, Frances Hollingsworth Marshall and Fuller Hunnicutt.
He is survived by his brother, Simeon Hunnicutt and wife Christine of Yorktown, Virginia, his sister, Redie Deal of Atlanta, Georgia, his sister, Marian Hammock of Savannah, his brother, Charles Hunnicutt and wife Barbara of Valrico, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, April 13, 2009 from 4:30 p.m. to 6: 30 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church with Reverend Billy Hester officiating.
Burial will be in the Eastside Cemetery in Statesboro, Georgia at 2 p.m. with Military Honors.
Active Pallbearers will be Bill Hollingsworth, Dennis Deal, Glenn Deal, Simeon Deal, Al Hammock and Joe Nelson.
